Youth Soccer Drills:A Guide To Basics
11/06/2010 by FeedCrazy.
I don’t know a thing about you, but I’ll bet that in youth soccer drills, the very basis of a game is its defense. Both sides in the game are said to have played best defensive soccer, when the score remains 0-0.
But, in kids soccer drills, there are two phases to winning a game. First is when an exceptional defense is demonstrated. The second feature is the ability of the offensive players to rise above the other team’s defense.
If your players are not able to get the ball, they’ll not be able to score. Some coaches follow the practice of training their kids in just one aspect; offense or defense. But, a complete player is one who is skilled at playing defensive soccer when the other party has the ball and offensive soccer when he himself has the ball.
In youth soccer practice, players who lose the custody of the ball must immediately go after the ball. This works well because the player from whose custody the ball goes is the one closest to it. Therefore, it’s easy for this player to pressurize the one in the possession of the ball now.
This is to say that he should attempt to get the ball back into his custody again. An added benefit is that the remaining team members would also get a chance to recover and take their defensive positions. This will restrict the opponent player’s movement in the field with the ball in his custody.
You can teach the players these skills by demonstrating the following techniques.
Immediate chase: When taken care of effectively in youth soccer drills, the opposition feels a lot of pressure from all sides. And then what it leads to is lost possession of the ball or a bad pass.
Fall back and delay: This can be possible only when the remaining team members fall back, and challenge the opponent with the ball and delay him or her from getting into their team’s goal area.
Since the most dangerous place on the field is the center, so teach your players to force the opponent with the ball towards the touchline. This ultimately leads to the player not being able to make a pass and also move around in different directions.
Arc of Concentration: When it comes to scoring, the most dangerous area is the arc of concentration. The players make the most number of goals in the arc of concentration. So it’s very important to teach the players in youth soccer coaching to concentrate on moving the ball outside of this area.
This arc is adjacent to the goal. It begins from one corner post of the goal and goes all the way through the corner of the goal box and on to the touchline. A goal is possible when the ball is in this area.
The above methods are the easiest and most effective in teaching players effective game strategies and youth soccer drills.

Soccer Practice Games: A Guide To 4v4 Game
11/06/2010 by FeedCrazy.
Have you ever imagined the kind of advantages soccer practice games give the players? It’s not just the chance to make contact with the ball many more times but also the open space that they get to experiment with their playing skills.
In soccer training, a 4v4 small-sided game is set up in a small area and is beneficial not only to the coach but also to the players. The coach has the opportunity to watch over all the players on one side because there are only 4 players. The players get ample time to play with the ball. Also, it allows the players to practice the process of distribution - collecting the ball, looking up, and taking quick decisions.
It’s the responsibility of the coach to push the kids to utilize the above procedure by remaining present on the ground. To begin with, the kids may find it difficult to adjust to it. For example, they may still adopt the kick and run style. This is normal. Nevertheless, you’ll be required to train them on various methods that can be used in the process of distribution.
You can initially use a diagram for making the kids understand the process. Subsequently demonstrate it too for the kids. Be a little persistent and the kids will find it easy to accept and follow it. After they begin utilizing the process, they’ll try to make the best use of the available space when they have the ball.
As a result of it, the team’s game gets a sort of constitution. This also causes the players to work on their skills as well as manipulate the speed of the game. You must know that this process of distribution is applicable only to players who have made some advancement in their training.
The beginners should not be introduced to this in soccer practice games. Their soccer drills should enable them solely to play soccer and not bother about rules and regulations. The focus should not be the development of the technique but free play and enjoyment.
When you teach players the process of distribution, it also makes sense to teach them to maintain balance with the ball. The player who has the ball must retain the possession but at the same time keep looking up and decide where to play the ball next.
Instruct the players on how to create space around the player with the ball so that he has protection and space to move the ball. A 4v4 game is best suited to teach such things.
Another duty of the coach is to teach the players different positions such as forward, defender, right flank, left flank. The kids should work on understanding these positions and the best method is that the coach calls these positions by name during practice.
You must remain patient with the kids while they are trying to absorb all these soccer exercises. It may take them some time in absorbing these things.
So move on and make your kids learn these skills through soccer practice games. To gain more information on a 4v4 game, enroll for our youth soccer coaching community that has several useful resources on youth soccer.
